Common Illnesses That Kids Get
3. RSV
This stands for Respiratory Syncytial Virus. This is a very common virus that infects a lot of kids every year. This infection can happen to anyone at any age, but they are more severe in infants. Sometimes it can get pretty bad, but often its symptoms are just a basic cold and they pass soon enough. If your child is wheezing, struggling to breathe, their lips and mouth turn blue, or they refuse to drink any water, calling a pediatrician is the best option. If not attended to quickly enough, it can end in a hospitalization. Sometimes this is unavoidable, but it’s always better to get help sooner rather than later. There are some medications that specifically fight this infection, but it’s not given to everyone. Your doctor will know if your baby needs it.
